Bio:

Juan C. Espinoza was a Managing Director at Oaktree Capital Management, acting as head of research for one of Oaktree’s Opportunities fund teams. He led the team’s efforts in deal-sourcing, due diligence, valuation and execution.  Mr. Espinoza led investment selection, mainly focusing on special situations that exhibit dislocated prices, stress, distress or opportunistic characteristics in various international debt and equity markets, including EM, with a flexible mandate across the capital structure. 

He joined Oaktree in 2013 from Fintech Advisory Inc. where he helped manage a portfolio of global distressed credit and equity securities as a senior analyst from 2011 to 2013. At Fintech Advisory, Mr. Espinoza was instrumental in the firm’s investments in European financial businesses facing distress.   At Oaktree, he was tasked with helping build a portfolio of securities in previously untapped areas of global financial markets for the firm and contribute to fund-raising efforts among top US and internationally based accounts, such as pension plans, endowment funds, sovereign funds, fund-of-funds, family offices and others.

Prior thereto, Mr. Espinoza worked at Wellington Management from 2001 to 2009, last serving as a senior analyst and assistant portfolio manager for Wellington’s Value Equities team, focusing on US and international mid and large cap value equities.  He began his investment career at Prudential Investments as an equity analyst in 1997.  Mr. Espinoza holds an M.B.A. from Harvard University and a B.S. degree in business administration from Universidad del Pacifico (Lima, Peru), where he also majored in accounting.  He is fluent in English and Spanish and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Peru.
